DOUBLE JOINTED EDITORIAL

DESIGN / ART DIRECTION

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Double Jointed is an editorial concept I designed focusing on the art and culture of the cannabis community. It features images, glass pieces, and artwork from Edie Parker, Summerland, and Yew Yew.

THE BRAND 💡

Double Jointed is a fictional biannual magazine I created to explore the culture and community surrounding cannabis. Each issue focuses on a different theme. This issue highlights the artistry and development behind glassware accessories and their creators. Through curated design and thoughtful features, Double Jointed challenges outdated perceptions of cannabis by highlighting its creative and innovative side.

THE CHALLENGE  🍃

Designing Double Jointed meant working with imagery from multiple cannabis brands, each with its own tone and aesthetic. The challenge was creating a consistent visual identity for the magazine while letting each spread feel unique to the brand it featured. Every layout had to strike a balance between cohesion and individuality.

MY ROLE  🪛

My role involved art direction, layout design, and selecting typefaces that matched each brand’s voice. I also handled all typesetting and made sure the visual flow felt intentional, cohesive, and editorially aligned.

EDIE PARKER

Edie Parker’s glassware is striking and fashionable, with food-inspired pieces that feel one-of-a-kind as cannabis accessories. This layout features their glassware scaled down in a grid pattern on a white background, paired with serif and sans-serif typography that matches the brand’s fun but curated vibe. The article spotlights the brand’s founder, Brett Heyman, and her journey into the cannabis space as a fashion designer.

YEW YEW

Yew Yew’s colourful glass pieces feel approachable, crafted as items that could work as both smoking tools and cute accents for your home or personal style. This layouts highlight this balance with bright and exciting elements, mixed with simple visuals and arranging the glassware as figures to represent the duality of the pieces.

SUMMERLAND

Summerland’s ceramic pieces have a handmade, natural feel, with a colour palette that reflects that earthy aesthetic. This layout uses warm tones and a mix of sans-serif and modern serif type to complement the brand’s salt of the earth vibe.
